Welcome to Vintage! My name is Debi Seltzer and I grew up in the world of auctions and estate sales. I watched as dealers bought only items that were considered “antique”, and then marked them up to so much more than they paid for them. In effect, they made their items so expensive that only a select few could afford their things.

It was always my dream to open a store filled with different things from the past and present that aren’t necessarily classified as “antiques”, but that are interesting, different and priced so that most people can afford them. There are so many vintage treasures that have value and that should be affordable, but much of the time they are overlooked, or again, put in a store and labeled “antique”, and thus priced too high for many of us to even consider buying.

Vintage Doylestown breaks all of these rules. We have an eclectic mix of very old, not so old and even kind of modern items that are priced to move. I buy solely based on what I personally find beautiful and interesting, and while my space is small I fill it floor to ceiling with all sorts of treasures. Vintage is overflowing with art, furniture, clothing, purses, scarves, records, objects d’ art, curios, glassware and various other interesting miscellaneous items.

I will also take special requests and be your “personal shopper”. You can email me with anything specific that you are looking for and I will keep my eyes out for it. One thing is for sure, anything and everything eventually comes through in the world of auctions and estate buying so if there is something specific you want I will more than likely be able to find it at some point (if you are willing to wait!). I want your time with Vintage to be as personal and enjoyable as possible and I will take any and all suggestions to ensure that this happens for you.

That brings me to my last point…… our earth. I am 35 years old and it has been within the last several years that I have become truly conscious of what we are doing to our earth. We are destroying it with things that we don’t need. I was in one of those big chain office supply stores with my husband and he noticed another new invention that will help our society to sink to a new level, throw away DVDs!!! Believe it or not, there is now a DVD formatted to only play for a pre-determined length of time, and then is rendered inoperable and must be thrown away! I don’t understand it, I truly don’t. Our throw-away society is literally out of control. There is every kind of “to go” food that you can imagine: From a package that includes a bagel, a single serving of cream cheese and a plastic knife… to every kind of fast (and horribly unhealthy) food imaginable in every kind of disposable container imaginable. When did we become so busy (or lazy) that we can’t make our own bagel at home and take it with us? Or sit down at the dinner table together and enjoy one-another’s company over a home cooked meal? I grew up in a home where dinner together was mandatory and now it is the exception. That time talking to my mom as she cooked dinner FROM SCRATCH every night and then sitting down together to eat it are the greatest memories of my childhood. Where is the line in the sand for what we as a society will tolerate? When do we say enough is enough and we don’t NEED these things even if we may want them?

And this is also why I am so passionate about Vintage, Vintage is a way to recycle the wonderful things that we already have. And as a general rule, the older the piece is, the better it was made. (And it wasn’t made in some sweat-shop in China!) We also have a link on our website on how to start your own compost pile which is an easy way to do your part to stop filling those landfills. I started composting two years ago and it actually gives me great pride every single day when I put weeds and food that would otherwise go into the garbage pile. I also take great pride in recycling anything and everything possible. My husband and I bought a house in Quakertown in November and they are amazing at recycling EVERYTHING!! They even take leaves and sticks and turn them into mulch that residents of Quakertown can have for free! I love it!

In conclusion, Vintage is not just my business, it is my passion and my way of life. I have never shopped retail very much, only what I need and can’t find at auctions and estate sales. I have always bought “recycled” items for their beauty and their economy. In my opinion there is not better way to shop and I am bringing that philosophy to Doylestown, the town I was born and raised in and I hope that everyone catches my Vintage fever! As we like to say here at Vintage,
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!!!

Thank you so much for visiting me here at Vintage Doylestown and I hope to see you here soon!
